More than just an annual report

LASALLE College of the Arts

LASALLE College of the Arts' Year in Review is a digital publication that reaches the hands of Ministers, Ambassadors, government agencies, and academic partners across the globe. Each edition captures the pulse of one of Asia's leading contemporary arts and design institutions: its people, its milestones, its momentum.

2024/25 was a special one. Marking LASALLE's 40th anniversary, this edition called for something beyond documentation – a celebration, a reflection, and a bold look forward.

The Brief

We were tasked to design and develop the Year in Review microsite for 2024/25, a digital publication that needed to speak to creative industry partners, overseas university delegates, and media professionals all at once.

The challenge: polished enough to hold up in professional circles, creative enough to reflect the institution behind it.

Creative Direction

We found our answer in something already close to LASALLE's and the creative community: the Creative Process Journal.

A familiar touchpoint within the school, the journal represents how creativity actually works, not linear, not clean, but layered, iterative, and deeply personal. We took that spirit and built a visual world around it. One that fuses analog warmth with contemporary edge, that feels like it's still being made even as you're looking at it.

The Creative Process Journal became our conceptual anchor,  a metaphor for LASALLE itself: 40 years in, still exploring, still evolving.

Design Direction

The visual system was built to feel alive. Layered elements, rich textures, and hand-crafted analog details create the sense of a composition built up over time. instant.

Woven throughout are references to LASALLE's different schools and disciplines, each element nodding to the breadth of creative practice that lives within the institution. Every design decision traces back to the same idea: creativity as process.

We approached the UX with two principles in mind: storytelling and streamlined design. The homepage surfaces navigation to all sections upfront, letting audiences jump straight to what interests them.

From there, each section was given its own distinct artwork, a collage or visual composition built to reflect its specific theme or content. Different voices, consistent art direction. The design language held together across every chapter, while each one still felt like its own.

Adaptations

The Creative Process Journal concept didn't stop at the microsite. It was adapted across LASALLE's digital platforms, reels, greetings, and beyond, maintaining visual consistency while keeping the energy of the original alive across every format.

A fully realised digital publication that holds its own as both an institutional document and a piece of design. The YIR 2024/25 microsite captures 40 years of LASALLE's journey through a visual language that feels as creative and evolving as the institution it represents, ready for the next milestone.
